Environment Health and Safety Coordinator

The Environment Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, documenting and auditing the comprehensive occupational safety and health protection management systems and policies to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment in accordance with the corporate safety policy and all federal, state and local regulations. Additionally, they are responsible for coordinating working partnerships across the organization that promotes a positive, proactive approach to ensuring worker health and safety.

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Provide administration and maintenance on variety of spreadsheets and reports tracking safety, FRA, FMCSA, local, state, and federal regulatory compliance

• Maintain all FRA, OSHA, FMCSA records and reports required by federal, state and local regulations; ensure safety and driver qualification files are complete and updated as required by rules and regulations

• Monitor hours of service (HOS) for required employees in safety sensitive roles, audit log books for any HOS violations (documenting HOS violation with corrective action), and maintain logs on file per DOT requirements

• Conduct quarterly audits on required documents and miscellaneous government-related paperwork and reports to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules and safety requirements

• Maintains all third-party vendor accounts (i.e., Sparks, e-RailSafe, BNSF, etc.)

• Perform all other duties as required and assigned

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent required

• Associate’s degree (Business, Human Resources, or related field) preferred; equivalent experience required

• Minimum of 3 years working with FRA, FMCSA, and OSHA compliance

• Minimum of 3 years of transportation, logistics or safety management experience

• Certifications in safety and compliance are preferred

• Clean criminal background and valid driver’s license with no major driving offenses within the last three years

Minimum Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Strong knowledge of legal, regulatory, FRA, FMCSA, and OSHA safety compliance

• Knowledge of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, think critically, and make good decisions

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize appropriately and successfully manage multiple projects through completion

• Demonstrated ability to maintain high attention to detail and work well with others as a team member
