Position Description
The General Shop Manager is responsible for the operations of Omaha Track Equipment. Their mission will be reinforcing a strong culture of safety while ensuring production efficiencies throughout the operation. They will be responsible for ensuring performance goals are met, maintaining a strong relationship with our customer(s), developing and coaching the management team, and setting the strategic direction for Omaha Track Equipment.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Direct and oversee all operations for Omaha Track Equipment, including forecasting future needs and shop requirements, as well as identifying new business opportunities
- Create and maintain a working atmosphere that promotes openness and enthusiasm in regards to safety, reinforcing safety awareness in a manner that promotes cooperation and improved morale
- Oversee the creation and implementation of training & development programs for new and existing employees
- Schedule staff to obtain optimum efficiency with available work, ensuring customer deadlines and commitments are met
- Develop and provide direction for the implementation of the required processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and cost management throughout the operation
- Establish an internal quality control process to ensure high standards in production
- Manage the OTE team, providing ongoing development and coaching
- Partner with Human Resources for recruiting, employee relations, and performance management
- Leverage the Omaha Track corporate team for marketing and operational strategies
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field; unless the applicant has equivalent years of experience
- 3-5 years of management experience required in a Shop environment dedicated to heavy truck, heavy equipment, & upfitting.
- Experience in the Maintenance of Way industry preferred
- Experience in Hi-rail equipment installation preferred
- Ability to read hydraulic and/or electric schematics preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with a focus on tact, coaching, public relations, and professionalism
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize appropriately and successfully manage projects through completion
Work Requirements
- Ability to utilize technology, including operating a computer with a high level of competence and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Understand and accurately interpret laws, rules, regulations, and other guidelines
- Analyze complex problems and develop effective and efficient solutions and alternatives
- Collect, investigate, and analyze data and prepare clear and concise reports
- Anticipate events and outcomes; develop strategies and work plans; execute appropriate actions
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a diverse group
- Attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
- Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information
- Personal protective equipment should be used as required
- Ability to meet and maintain company driving requirements
- Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 50lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders
- Travel: This position may require up to 10% of travel
